A new restaurant soon will be coming to Thirty-Eight, a mixed-use development at 38 Commerce Ave. SE owned by Locus Development.

The owners of the popular Cherry Deli, Scott and Suzanne Schulz, plan to open Two Beards Deli and Catering this fall. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and offer catering services. The broad menu will include nearly 100 deli-style sandwiches, a half-dozen soups and a dozen salads. Two Beards will cater lunch and dinner.

“We are really excited to be able to bring the quality and variety of our food into downtown. From vegetarian and vegan options to dozens of types of meat combinations, everyone will find a favorite,” said Chef Scott Schulz in a release.

Schulz chose Thirty-Eight because of its prime location near Van Andel Arena, offices, nightspots and nearby colleges.

“Two Beards is a great addition to the neighborhood and a wonderful amenity to the residents and office workers at Thirty-Eight. We could not have picked a better operator to fill the void in the marketplace,” said John Green, a partner with Andy Winkel in Locus Development.

“We feel so fortunate to have had the assistance of Dan Van Eerden of Van Eerden Foods, Chris Muller of M Retail, and Doris Drain of United Bank to make this happen,” said Schulz. “Locus Development has been great to work with. We look forward to being part of the revitalization efforts in the Heartside neighborhood.”
