Metro Health and OAM expand downtown surgery center
It will be re-named the Metro Health OAM Surgery Center.
Metro Health and its joint venture partner, Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan, have announced that they will expand their downtown surgery center, adding a fourth operating room in January, and have already received certificate of need approval for the additional surgery space.
The surgery center will be re-named the Metro Health OAM Surgery Center, as the health system continues to “expand its partnerships and grow its footprint,” according to a statement from Metro Health.
In addition, Metro Health will add approximately 10,000 square feet of space to expand heart and vascular services, and Metro Health orthopedic physician services, in adjoining space in the same building.
The Metro Health OAM Surgery Center leases space in the Women’s Health Center of West Michigan building at 555 Mid Towne St. NE, near the intersection of Michigan Street and College Avenue, in an area known as the Medical Mile. It currently has three state-of-the-art operating suites, and is the only surgical center in the Grand Rapids area that is completely focused on orthopedic surgeries, according to Metro Health.
OAM, which employs 30 doctors, is the largest independent orthopedic practice in Michigan, with sub-specialization in eight Centers of Excellence, according to Metro Health.
“Demand for Metro Health and OAM services at the surgery center were strong immediately, and have continued to grow since the location opened in 2009,” said Mike Faas, president and CEO of Metro Health. “Partnerships are key to almost everything that we do, and our partnerships with Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan and others are crucial to this center’s success.”
Prominent exterior signage, visible from Michigan Street and I-196, was installed last week on the Women’s Health Center of West Michigan building, featuring the surgery center’s new name.
