Just in time for the holidays, the Grand Rapids Symphony Women’s Committee is releasing "Encore!" –– a 200 page, full color coffee table and recipe book.

The book contains 175 recipes from symphony supporters and musicians, local chefs and community residents. It also shows off the city’s rich fine and performing arts communities through photos by local photographers like Craig van der Lende, Terry Johnston, Brian Kelly, Tim Motley and Dianne Carroll Burdick, among others.

In addition to the Grand Rapids Symphony, several additional arts organizations are featured throughout the book: Grand Rapids Ballet, Opera Grand Rapids, St. Cecilia Music Center, Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids Children’s Museum and Grand Rapids Public Museum.

“It’s split into a number of sections and each section talks about Grand Rapids and how art and music and our festivals and events make Grand Rapids what it is,” said Gina Paul, co-chair of "Encore!".

Each section also has a theme such as, Grand Rapids Acts!, Grand Rapids Celebrates!, Grand Rapids Sings! or Grand Rapids Inspires!, and an introductory vignette by Rebecca Knack, longtime symphony supporter.

But, the biggest highlight of the book is the recipes. Pared down from 600 suggestions, the final selections include 26 from local restaurant chefs.

“We had a difficult time narrowing down recipes for the edition because we received so many wonderful offerings,” said Paul. “We chose recipes that showcase fresh, local produce and products that are fun to make and to eat without being too challenging.

“The result is an exceptional collection that is as much coffee table book as it is cookbook. Whether you are recruiting new employees to our community or looking for a unique gift for a longtime resident, ‘Encore’ is the perfect choice.”

Like most cookbooks, "Encore!" recipes cover beverages, appetizers, soups, salads, sides, meats, poultry, seafood, vegetarian, breads and brunch, and desserts.

For people interested in purchasing multiple copies for gifts, Paul said a baker’s dozen offer is available: 13 books for the price of 12.

The book is selling for $30 and is available at 39 locations as well as online at www.grswomenscommittee.org. All proceeds from "Encore!" sales will go to the Symphony and its educational programs.
