Beer City, USA keeps churning out liquid gold.

Draft Magazine released its list of top 25 beers of 2012, and two Grand Rapids breweries made the list: Founders Brewing Co. and Brewery Vivant. The list includes beers from across the globe, but was narrowed down to include only those that were made available in the U.S. this year.

Brewery Vivant teamed with New Belgium Brewing Co. in Fort Collins, Colo., this summer to make a special beer honoring French Chef Auguste Escoffier. The Escoffier, a fruity Belgian-style beer, was the magazine’s favorite food-pairing brew, suggesting that it be paired with farmhouse cheeses. It was brewed at Vivant.

A similar beer, brewed at New Belgium, was recently released as part of the Colorado brewery’s Lips of Faith series, the Biere de Garde.

Meanwhile, Founders was placed on the list for its 15th Anniversary Barleywine, Bolt Cutter.

The high-alcohol beer (15 percent) is the magazine’s top cellar entry and named after a pair of bolt cutters owner Dave Engbers bought during a foreclosure scare.

Founders will hold a party on Saturday for its anniversary, and a limited release follows.
