Revelers welcome 2013 at HOT New Year's Eve concert downtown
Tens of thousands of people are expected to pack downtown Grand Rapids once again Monday for the annual HOT New Year’s Eve Party concert, beginning at 6 p.m. Last year, approximately 40,000 people packed on to Monroe Avenue NW between Louis and Pearl streets to celebrate.
The concert will feature headline performer and on-stage host Jesse McCartney, as well as hip hop performers Baby Bash, NBC “The Voice” contestant Sylvia Yacoub, who is a Muskegon native, and local band The Outer Vibe.
Longtime broadcaster Alice St. Clair, a former live television news producer and on-air anchor, will host WKTV's coverage of the HOT New Year's Eve event, and on-site reporting assistance will be provided by Rachael Gray, co-host of “Gravy In The Morning” on HOT 105.3 FM.
The mayors of Grand Rapids, Wyoming and Kentwood — George Heartwell, Jack Poll and Richard Clanton, respectively — will join the HOT FM crew for the ball drop at 11:59 p.m.
"We are very pleased WKTV is being recognized as a state-of-the-art media resource, and while every production will not be of this scale, I hope it will serve to inspire future productions and community involvement in local media," said Tom Norton, WKTV’s general manager.
WKTV's will utilize seven HD cameras, three jib arms and nearly a mile of cables to execute the largest live production in the station’s 38-year history.
For those looking to avoid the crowd and stay out of the cold, community television station WKTV is partnering with Cumulus Broadcasting to televise the concert and ball drop.
Area residents with Comcast and AT&T U-Verse television service will be able to view the live concert from 10:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. on LiveWire — channel 24 on Comcast and channel 99 on U-Verse, according to the station.
