HopCat lands on Draft Magazine's list of 'best beer bars'
Two West Michigan bars were named to Draft Magazine’s 2013 list of "America’s 100 best beer bars."
For the fourth year in a row, HopCat, 25 Ionia Ave. SW, was named one of the magazine’s top beer bars in the nation.
HopCat brings in rare beers from across the globe, but also keeps a steady rotation of Michigan and Grand Rapids beers on its 48 taps and expansive bottle selection.
The bar also has been named the No. 3 beer bar in the world by BeerAdvocate Magazine and the No. 2 beer bar in America by RateBeer.com.
“We’re grateful the people of Grand Rapids, and beer lovers around the world, have embraced HopCat with such enthusiasm,” said Mark Sellers, a principal in BarFly Ventures, which also owns the Grand Rapids Brewing Co. among others, last week in a grbj.com article on the bar’s fifth anniversary.
In October, Sellers announced the company’s plans to open a Lansing Brewing Co. and a second HopCat location in East Lansing in 2013.
On the list for the second time was Ludington’s Mitten Bar.
The bar only serves Michigan-made brews and offers up live music and unique food specials such as smoked pork belly.
