Hiring Our Heroes job fair puts out call for veterans and their spouses
Veterans and their spouses will have the opportunity to meet with employers from more than 40 companies at the Hiring Our Heroes job fair on Thursday.
The free job fair will take place from noon to 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at Grand Valley National Guard Armory, 1200 44th St. SW, in Wyoming.
The list of companies planning to attend the job fair is varied. A few of the companies include: Cintas Corp., Citigroup, Haworth, Herman Miller, Home Depot, L-3 Avionics Systems, Meijer, Padnos, Quicken Loans, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Verizon Communications and Weller Truck Parts. A full list of employers can be found at the U.S. Chamber website.
The job fair is part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes national program, which is a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. To date the program has helped 14,100 veterans or their spouses land jobs throughout the country.
Attendees are asked to register online for the job fair. Additionally, registered attendees can participate in an employment workshop, which is being offered by the Grand Rapids GE Veterans Network Transition Assistance Program. The workshop will include one-on-one mentoring sessions focused on resume building, resume writing and interviewing techniques.
