Five leaders of the West Michigan beer industry rank at the top — or near the top — of RateBeer.com's 2013 "best of" lists.

Each year, RateBeer ranks the best breweries, markets, brewpubs and beer bars in the craft beer industry.

HopCat, fresh off a rating by Draft Magazine, is RateBeer's top brewpub in the United States. HopCat has also been named the No. 3 rated beer bar in the world by BeerAdvocate and the No. 2 beer bar in the United States by CraftBeer.com.

Siciliano’s Market, at Lake Michigan Drive and Collindale Ave., is RateBeer's best beer market in the country. Siciliano’s is a hub for both homebrewers and beer drinkers alike.

Many of the area’s breweries started out with home-brewing equipment and ingredients from Siciliano’s.

Founders Brewing Co. ranks as RateBeer's best brewery in Michigan, and its Kentucky Breakfast Stout is the best beer in Michigan.

Founders and Bells Brewery both appear prominently on the list of top 10 Best Beers of the World. Kentucky Breakfast Stout is ranked No. 4, while Bells’ Hopslam is ranked No. 6 and Black Note rounds out the top 10.

Bells Expedition Stout hit No. 18, Founders Imperial Stout ranks No. 28 and Dark Horse Brewing Co. in Marshall ranks No. 40 with its Bourbon Barrel Aged Plead the 5th Imperial Stout.

RateBeer will continue to put out lists, including Best Beers of the World by style. The lists will culminate with the Best Brewers in the World on Feb. 1.
