Connie's Cakes bakes Eastown opening
You can have your cake and eat it, too — at Connie’s Cakes' grand-opening celebration in Eastown on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
The shop will offer free cake samples and hors d'oeuvres all day at its new location in the historic Kingsley Building at 1416 Robinson Road SE.
Connie's Cakes was recently named a 2013 Best of Weddings recipient by The Knot.
“I’m so happy to be in the Eastown neighborhood," said Mary Scheidel, Connie's Cakes' owner. "We see a very bright future for Connie’s Cakes in our new location. We hope all of our new friends and neighbors will drop by to see us at our grand opening.”
Scheidel bought the business from her aunt Connie Hennip in 2010 when it was known as Connie’s Cakes-n-Crafts. Hennip and her sister, Wanda Faber, opened the bakery in 1995.
Scheidel moved the business into the Kingsley Building last month.
Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell will be on hand for the shop's ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.
