Librarian awarded academy fellowship

Tim Gleisner, Grand Rapids Public Library’s history and special collections supervisor, is one of 24 librarians across the nation who were awarded a fellowship by the Public Library Association to attend the PLA Leadership Academy, March 4-8 in Chicago. The academy’s intent includes developing skills needed to work with local government and community partners to enhance the position of the library within the community and improve the effectiveness of library activities and programs. Gleisner manages the downtown library’s historical and special collections, which includes artifacts, manuscripts, photographs, genealogical materials and historical programming.

ARTS

Grand Rapids Public Museum received a $30,000 grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. It will be used to fund museum exhibitions and programming focused on the Grand Rapids community.

AWARDS

Ambassador Steel Fabrication LLC of Comstock Park is the recipient of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Michigan Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program Award for an exemplary safety and health management system.

Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids announced it has been awarded the designation of “Full Partner” for its racism-free efforts by the Partners for a Racism-Free Community.

Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes announced it is the recipient of the 2013 Peak Performance Team Award by Junior Achievement USA. PPTA is an annual distinction that recognizes outstanding performance by a local JA office team.

BUILDING & CONSTRUCTION

U.S. Green Building Council West Michigan announced its new officers: chair, Kris Ford, Owen-Ames-Kimball Co.; vice chair, Dennis Bekken, C2AE; treasurer, Cheri Holman, Hurst Mechanical; and secretary, Victor Tvedten, Energy Finance Analytics.

Wade Kralaap has joined a.j. Veneklasen Inc. as project manager.

Wolverine Building Group project managers Brandon Hartel and Jon Laureto received Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Certification for food safety, which will enable Wolverine to better serve manufacturing and health care clients with in-depth knowledge of food-borne hazard prevention.

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. announced Grand Rapids Public School’s board of education selected the firm to oversee Stocking Elementary School renovations, which will include electrical upgrades, new finishes and a new elevator, upgraded building controls and sundry improvements. Work is scheduled to be completed in August.

BUSINESS SERVICES

The Charter Group has named Jeanne Englehart, vice president, client management. She will build relationships with clients and link business owners to a complete spectrum of M&A advisory, capital raise, capital management and business valuation services.

Cooper & Partners announced the appointment of Jane Lucas to director of program development. Lucas is responsible for developing and launching initiatives for the Workwell Michigan Network, conferences and seminars, and will assist the Wellness Now online resource for the Network.

Slingshot Product Development Group, an Atlanta-based product innovation and implementation company, announced its intent to open a business development office in Grand Rapids. Danny Hill will be the new product development and marketing manager.

EDUCATION

Grand Valley State University announced Shannon Wilson has been named director of corporate giving for university development.

Josh Rumenapp has been named head coach of Grace Bible College’s women’s soccer team. Rumenapp has been an assistant coach at the high school and collegiate level He was a four-year starter during high school for New Life Christian Academy and a four-year starter at the keeper position at Grace Bible College.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

Kendra Harthun has joined Regal Financial Group as business development coordinator.

HEALTH

Dr. Douglas Leppink of The Centre for Plastic Surgery has been accepted into the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, joining his partner, Dr. Scott Brundage, in the recognition.

HUMAN SERVICES

Guiding Light Mission announced Nancy Claus is a new member of its board. Continuing members are: chair, Jeff VanWinkle; vice-chair, Shawn Merritt; treasurer, Claire Larson; secretary, Phil DeVries; board members Clifford Washington, Brad Mathis, Kevin Stotts and Nate Vander Stelt; and advisor, Michelle Behrenwald.

Wedgwood Christian Services announced that Luis Avila, attorney with Varnum LLP, and Rev. Kyle Ray, lead pastor of Kentwood Community Church, have been named to its board of directors.

The Michigan Senate recognized Holland Home with a certificate for its 120 years of service.

Angela DeVries, divisional volunteer director for the West Michigan Northern Indiana Division of The Salvation Army, has been certified by the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration, the only internationally recognized credential in the field of volunteer administration.

Foster Swift Collins and Smith PC has elected attorney John Inhulsen as a shareholder.

LOGISTICS

Supply Chain Solutions Inc. announced Holland has been named the winner of Carrier of the Year for 2012. The award is given annually to a carrier that meets and exceeds carrier standards in freight transportation.

MANUFACTURING

Perrigo announced the promotions of Gretel Eubanks to vice president, corporate quality systems and compliance; Mary Reilly to vice president, global talent management; and Stacey Petrey to vice president, global compensation and benefits.

X-Rite Inc., a Danaher Corp. company, announced Ron Voigt has been named president of the operating company. Voigt previously was president of commercial and services operations at Tektronix. Before joining Danaher, Voigt held leadership positions at Delphi including divisional leader, vice president, business unit leader and managing director of European operations.

PUBLIC SERVICE

The Gerald R. Ford International Airport board announced the election of chair Roger Morgan and vice chair Richard Vander Molen. Remaining board members include: Ted Vonk, Birgit Klohs, Terri Lynn Land, David Slikkers and Floyd Wilson Jr.

State Rep. Ken Yonker has been appointed vice chair of the newly formed House Committee on Michigan Competitiveness to foster methods for a healthy economy and better quality of life for Michigan’s residents. State Rep. Lisa Posthumus Lyons was appointed chair of the House Education Committee as well as chair of the House Committee on Elections & Ethics.

REAL ESTATE

CBRE/Grand Rapids announced Dan VanKalker has joined its industrial team. He will focus on new business developments, transaction management and client relations, concentrating on manufacturing and distribution initiatives.
