Grand Valley State University’s Van Andel Global Trade Center is organizing a trade mission to São Paulo, Brazil, from May 12-17, in partnership with the state's marketing arm, Michigan Economic Development Corp.

The mission will assist Michigan businesses to expand export sales to Brazil — the world’s seventh-largest economy — and build new connections with businesses, academia and government.

Brazil has one of the world’s largest economies, with high growth rates and strong growth potential. Targeted industries for this trade mission are advanced manufacturing, environmental technology, medical equipment and engineering and construction.

“This is a great time for Michigan businesses to explore global opportunities, especially small businesses,” said Sonja Johnson, executive director of the Van Andel Global Trade Center. “We are very excited that eligible companies with less than 500 global employees may be eligible for partial reimbursement for this trade mission as part of the State Trade Export Promotion Program.”

The fee for going on the trade mission to Brazil is $3,700 per person, and there is a limit of just one attendee per company.

Participants will receive one-on-one appointments to talk over opportunities with Brazilian businesses and updates from local experts to gain current market insights.

They will also participate in networking events and visits with Michigan companies already established in Brazil, plus seaport and cultural tours.

Each participant will receive translation services for marketing materials and business cards.

Space is limited and the deadline for registration is Feb. 28.

For more information about the trade mission, visit vagtc.org or call (616) 331-6811 to register.
