Super Service donates truck to Baker College

Freight company Super Service LLC donated a 53-foot truck to Baker College of Cadillac, which will be used for its Zeeland-Cadillac truck-driving program. M&K Quality Truck Sales Inc. and Premier Graphics donated the painting and decaling, respectively. The rig is intended to help increase visibility and attract students to the program. Baker’s two-quarter program is certified by the Professional Truck Driver Institute.

Marketing communications/PR firm Boileau Communications Management LLC won a Gold ADDY and Best of Show at the 2013 ADDY Awards for its interactive 2012 Annual Report for Holland Board of Public Works.

The Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan has honored Varnum with the 2013 President’s Corporate Leadership Award in recognition for the law firm’s long-standing relationship with CLF through attorneys’ activities in its Metro Detroit office.

BANKING

Founders Bank & Trust announced the addition of Greg Randall, vice president, commercial lending group manager.

Thomas A. DeMeester has joined Northern Trust as a senior wealth strategist for the West Michigan office.

CONSTRUCTION

Rockford Construction announced the promotions of Scott Ferguson, director of sustainability, and Jenny Waugh, director of marketing.

EDUCATION

Calvin College history professor James Bratt is the 21strecipient of the college’s Presidential Award for Exemplary Teaching, the highest distinction Calvin bestows to a faculty member. Calvin also announced its graduates are among the national leaders in pass rates on the certified public accountant exam, with nearly 75 percent passing the exam on their first attempt in 2012.

Cindy Todd, associate professor and chair of the art education program at Ferris State University’s Kendall College of Art and Design, is the recipient of the National Art Education Student Chapter Sponsor Award of Excellence.

Legacy Trust announced the additions of Brian Balke, investment operations associate, and Laura Drabczyk, administrative assistant.

FURNITURE

Custer announced the addition of Scott Robertson to its Custer HealthWorks team. Robertson will perform internal and external project management as well as process and procedural improvements.

GRANTS

AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation’s Connections for Cardiovascular Health program announced a $161,950 grant to Catherine’s Health Center to support its Live Heart Smart initiative, which targets low-income, medically underserved Grand Rapids residents to become aware of personal cardiovascular disease risks and implement healthy lifestyle changes.

HEALTH

Bruce Wall has joined Northern Physical Therapy in Wayland as a staff physical therapist; occupational therapist Josh Blevins has joined the Coopersville location.

Doug Dietzman, executive director of Michigan Health Connect, has been appointed to the leadership council of the eHealth Initiative, a national group of 200 health care leaders seeking to improve patient care and provider efficiencies through new technologies.

Dr. Jim Byrne announced his retirement as Priority Health’s chief medical officer effective July 1. One of his key initiatives, Partners in Performance, led to the creation of programs and services so that patients in Michigan are more likely to receive breast and colon cancer screenings and more help in managing chronic disease than anywhere else in the nation.

Area Community Services Employment and Training Council announced the appointment of Jacob Maas, executive director.

Lighthouse Group has added Paul Hascher as director of risk control for its business insurance department.

Accident Fund Insurance Co. of America announced Ottawa Kent Insurance Agency Inc. in Jenison is the recipient of its 2012 President’s Club Award.

Chambers USA has recognized three Varnum attorneys in Grand Rapids as Leaders in Their Field: David E. Khorey and Lawrence J. Murphy, labor and employment; and Nyal Deems, Grand Rapids, real estate.

Eugene E. Smary, a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been appointed to the governing council of the International Bar Association’s Section of Energy Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law.

Michigan Lawyers Weekly recognized Miller Johnson attorney Robert D. Brower as one of 30 Leaders in the Law for Michigan.

Classic Transportation & Warehousing announced U.S. Customs has approved the company as C-TPAT-certified as a Third Party Logistics Company and as a Transportation Company. It also was one of the first food distribution centers to be audited on the new standards for 2013 by the American Institute of Baking.

The Safe Quality Food Institute has recognized five Columbian Logistics Network facilities with the Level 2 SQF Certification, a globally recognized achievement that reflects a company’s commitment to food safety, quality and legality.

Whirlpool Corp. announced Diane Dietz, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Safeway Inc., has been appointed to its board of directors.

Kellogg Co. announced the election of Cynthia H. Milligan, dean emeritus of the College of Business Administration at University of Nebraska-Lincoln and trustee of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, to its board of directors.
