FranNet hosts Meets the Franchisors at Northwood University

A free introduction to the world of franchising will be held in Grand Rapids next week.

Meet the Franchisors, a free afternoon event that seeks to inform the public about franchising, will run from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, March 21, at Northwood University’s Grand Rapids campus, 515 Michigan St. NE, Suite 100.

The afternoon will feature a series of individuals who are involved in franchising presenting on the business nature of franchising and sharing their stories. Michigan-based franchisors looking to expand also will be available to meet with interested attendees. Although seating is limited, the event is open anyone who wants to learn more about franchising or is considering buying into a franchise.

Meet the Franchisors, in partnership with Buy Michigan Now, is sponsored by FranNet of West Michigan, a franchise consulting firm. FranNet, based in Louisville, Ky., has more than 85 consultants across its national network, matching up thousands of entrepreneurs with small business opportunities.

Brigitte Betser, FranNet franchise placement specialist and event organizer, said Meet the Franchisors is an event most national FranNet chapters host in their own local communities. The West Michigan FranNet has been hosting these events for about a year, once in April and once in October, she said, usually getting about 30 visitors at each session and averaging two new owners per event.

“What tends to happen is individuals who attend have been thinking about business ownership and find that there are a wide range of opportunities they had not considered before,” she said. “This helps them get together and look.”

Betser noted that service-based franchises tend to be more popular than fast food or retail concepts, because they tend to require less investment, even though the risk factor is about the same.

Five franchise owners based in eastern Michigan looking to expand into West Michigan will attend, she said, as will representatives from the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo chapters of SCORE, the senior counsel of retired executives, who will be there to give advice and connect interested franchisers with resources.

Attendees can register online or by calling (616) 891-1374.
