The Apartment Lounge bar is re-launching Friday.

Mayor George Heartwell, along with representatives from the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the re-launch of the Apartment Lounge bar at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow, at 33 Sheldon Ave. NE, Grand Rapids.

The venue, considered one of the oldest LGBT establishments in Michigan, was recently bought by Bob Johnson, owner of West Michigan Caterer.

Johnson enhanced the lounge by adding flat screen TVs, drink and food specials and a new payment system, which now accepts credit cards.

“The Apartment Lounge has been a staple in Grand Rapids for over 38 years,” Johnson said. “I am proud to have the opportunity to modernize and own this venue.”
