GVSU entrepreneurs enter 'shark tank' to pitch business plans

The next generation of entrepreneurs will be in the spotlight and, perhaps, in the hot seat when Grand Valley State University holds its fifth annual Business Plan Competition on Monday.

Eight students will have 10 minutes to pitch their ideas and compete for $10,000 worth of cash prizes in sort of a “Shark Tank” atmosphere. 

The competition gives entrepreneurial students the chance to think through the business opportunities that interest them, prepare a business plan around those ideas, and learn the fine art of pitching ideas to potential investors.

The competition is at 6 p.m. in Loosemore Auditorium at the downtown Pew Campus.

The students taking part in the competition and their business plans are:

  • Eric Dudek, “On-The-Go RFID”
  • Jason Sissing, “Twist Top”
  • Credell Jackson, “IDEA Marketing & Promotions”
  • Jeff Johnson, “SolarBOX”
  • Tyler Petersen, “Tie Medical Supplies”
  • Ulandra Reynolds, “All Things Weaved”
  • Tyler Richardson ,“BioInteract”
  • Austin Dean, “Collective Metrics”

Judging the competition will be the founder of Lee Shore Ventures Erik Hall, West Michigan SmartZone Executive Director Jeff Royce, Sitting In A Tree founder Laura Vaughn, Atomic Object Vice President Mike Marsiglia, and Miles Smith, president of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization.

Audience members also will have the opportunity to take part in the judging process through the Buzz Award, which uses social media to engage the public and let them vote for their favorite. The event is free and open to the public.

The Seidman College of Business’ Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation sponsors the competition.
