Holland Hospital plans $6.3M office building for doctors on helipad site
Holland city officials have approved plans by Holland Hospital to build a new office facility for doctors who work at the hospital.
Construction on the $6.3 million, 33,000-square-foot building will start in May on the hospital’s former helicopter landing pad next to the main hospital.
The landing pad had been used approximately once a month, with most flights to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.
Holland’s West Michigan Regional Airport is less than a 10-minute drive from the hospital, so patients requiring air transport to more distant locations will be taking off from the airport.
An increase in office space for physicians is required at many hospitals, as a result of the trend today to add groups of specialist physicians as members of the hospital staff.
More than 330 physicians are now considered part of the Holland Hospital staff, according to Breed, meaning they have privileges to work at Holland Hospital.
Of that number, 33 primary and specialty care physicians and nearly 20 mid-level providers are actually employed by the hospital as part of the Lakeshore Health Partners group, which was launched by Holland Hospital in 2008 with about a dozen physicians at the start.
Meanwhile, Holland Hospital is building a 23,400 square foot, $10-million addition for a new orthopedic, spine and neurosurgery unit.
Holland Hospital, at 602 Michigan Ave. in Holland, is an independent hospital, licensed for 189 beds.
