Art Van teaches interior design
For those who could use a lesson in interior design, Art Van Furniture has a class for you.
Art Van, Michigan’s largest furniture retailer, will be hosting a free three-class series this month on interior design topics such as cohesive room designs, personal decoration styles and color schemes.
The evening classes, each one lasting about 90 minutes, will run between April 9-25 and be held locally at Art Van in Comstock Park, at 4273 Alpine Ave., as well as its Ann Arbor and Novi stores.
The first class is “Getting Started: The Elements of Design” and will be followed by “Design Details: Fabrics & Finishes” and “Room by Room: Design Solutions.”
Classes and customers
Art Van has been hosting these classes, taught by Art Van visual merchandisers, every spring and fall for about four years, said Diane Charles, Art Van’s director of communications. The classes usually have anywhere from 30 to 75 in attendance, she said, and have been incredibly well received.
“What we realized is most people are afraid, so they do nothing. A lot of times, they need validation or they need to know why something works or doesn’t,” she said. “It helps find solutions for our guests, which is what we’re all about.”
Offering free education on themes concerning the products that Art Van sells has worked well for the company, Charles said.
Students receive free coupons without constant badgering to shop, she said, and yet Art Van always sees an increase in sales after the classes.
“We’re more than trying to sell you something. We’re in your life to help you with the moments. When you get married, when you’re setting up a child’s bedroom . . . furniture is in your life every day of your life. We want to be your partner as you walk through that journey.”
Class space is limited, and customers can register at Art Van's events page.
