The Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority is kicking off its new urban issues speaker series with noted transportation consultant Jeffrey Tumlin on Thursday evening — at 7 p.m. in room 217 at Kendall College of Art and Design, 17 Pearl St. NW.

Tumlin, a principal with Nelson-Nygaard, is considered to be an expert in multimodal transportation planning. He has worked to develop smart transportation investments with cities, developers and regional governments that have fostered economic development.

Tumlin has a reputation for using direct community input in his transportation plans.

On Thursday, Tumlin will focus his talk on various transportation choices and discuss how each impacts a community and its residents.

The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are recommended, but are not necessary, and can be made by e-mailing tkelly@grcity.us. Doors open at 6:30 and refreshments will be available.

The event is being sponsored by Experience Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, The Salon Urbanist Meetup, the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks, The Rapid, the City of Grand Rapids and Kendall College of Art and Design.

Tumlin is also scheduled to address the city’s Parking Commission Thursday morning at 8 a.m.
