TEDxGrandRapids tags speakers
Fourteen speakers and two performers will command the stage at the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre on May 9 for the third annual TEDxGrandRapids.
The eclectic lineup of speakers has backgrounds in business startups, food, education, technology and innovation and titles such as frugal innovator, obstacle remover, game changer, technology artist and genomics expert.
“We are incredibly excited to offer the range of ideas, talent and experience in this year’s TEDxGR speaker lineup,” said Bill Holsinger-Robinson, co-founder of HUB Grand Rapids. “These talks — on topics ranging from business innovation to genetics, from design to educational and cultural transformation — will be powerful and personal explorations of the ways each of us is called to lead, inspire and contribute.”
Speakers will address a sold-out Grand Rapids audience throughout the day, each speaking for approximately 18 minutes.
Local artists Lady Ace Boogie and Gemini Da Poet are also scheduled to perform during the event.
Live stream video
For those who were not able to purchase tickets to the event, there will be access to all of the day’s presentations through a free live stream link that will be available on tedxgrandrapids.org.
Recorded videos of each talk will be posted online shortly after May 9 for free viewing as well.
Students and educators will also be provided with the live stream experience at three offsite locations: East Kentwood, Greenville and the Dogwood Center for the Performing Arts.
“Many of the speakers, after learning about our Livestream for Education, have enthusiastically offered to also share their ‘big ideas’ live on stage at East Kentwood High School,” said Jennifer Jurgens, executive director of Susan G. Komen Foundation in Grand Rapids and TEDxGR speaker lead. “Their commitment to not just the adults, but also the students of West Michigan has set them apart.”
"Tag — you're it."
This year’s TEDxGrandRapids theme, “Tag — you're it.” hopes to promote the spread of the ideas shared within the Civic Theatre across the community and encourages participants to share the dialogues and presentation’s with their circles of influence for further discussion and create a lasting community impact.
Speaker and performer bios can be found at the TEDxGrandRapids website.
