Douglas Hekman of Quincy Street Inc. in Holland was named 2013 Michigan Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Quincy Street is a pork processor and seller that has been in business since 1994. Hekman has led the company to double-digit growth in each of the past five years. Holland’s Teddy’s Transport, a second-generation family trucking business started in 1982, was named the Michigan Family-Owned Business of the Year.

Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services announced it has received notification of accreditation for its new psychiatry residency program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The first residency class begins in July 2014. The four-year program will have eight residents annually, post-graduate year one through post-graduate year four, for a total of 32 residents in 2017.
The Western Regional Center of the Michigan Area Health Education Center announced it has selected Lori Stegmier to serve as executive director. Stegmier will design, direct and assess administration, program planning and development, personnel management, fundraising and public relations and marketing.
Mel Trotter Ministries marked the one-year anniversary of its Day Center, which provides shelter for up to 100 homeless men, women and children. The ministry so far has provided shelter for more than 14,000 men, women and children.
