Visbeen Architects

The Association for Retail Environments Design Awards recently recognized Visbeen Architects for Outstanding Merit in the Specialty Store Over 25,000 Square Feet category for its design of A.K. Rikk’s. Visbeen was one of 72 winners awarded for excellence in retail design from 51 projects worldwide. Winners beat out 2,000 entries in 23 award categories. Visbeen Architects has provided a range of architectural planning services to clients in the Great Lakes area since 1992.

ARCHITECTURE & ENGINEERING

Fishbeck Thompson Carr & Huber Inc. announced the additions of Michael T. Malvitz, intern architect, and Mark T. Parsley, process engineer, to its Grand Rapids team.

AWARDS

Forensic Fluids Laboratories in Kalamazoo announced Bridget Lorenz Lemberg, founder and CEO, has been named recipient of the Grant Thornton Leader & Innovator of the Year Award for being a top Michigan business executive in an industry key to the state’s economic future. It also announced the addition of Sandy Steinbach, controller.

Grand Valley State University News and Information Services won six Silver PRoof Awards from the West Michigan Public Relations Society of America: Laker for a Lifetime “I’m on a Boat” promotion; GVSU Accountability Report; 2012 Election Campaign; Upward Bound feature for Grand Valley Magazine; Around Grand Valley Tour video; and FTP Media Site. It also won two Communicator Awards of Excellence, and five Hermes Creative Awards.

Van Andel Institute Board of Governors announced Christine Boelkins and Vicky Ludema are the inaugural recipients of Angel of Excellence awards in honor of Carol Van Andel. Boelkins and Ludema volunteer for the VAI’s Hope on the Hill charitable event.

Grand Rapids Community College announced associate professor of English Maryann Lesert will spend the 2014 winter semester writing two novels, one pertaining to Alzheimer’s disease and care-giving stress and the second about horizontal hydraulic fracturing.

Northern Physical Therapy announced the additions of Tina Couturier, billing specialist, Grant Clinic; and Carrie Vollmer, patient care specialist, Cedar Springs location.

Metro Health Hospital is the recipient of a VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence. The award recognizes organizations that achieve top performance in care measures tracked by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in value-based purchase and Hospital Consumer Assessment of HealthCare Providers and Services results, 30-day readmission rates and Medicare cost data.

Mel Trotter Ministries has marked the one-year anniversary of its Day Center. The ministry has provided shelter for more than 14,000 men, women and children.

Women’s Resource Center announced its 40thanniversary. It has served 40,000 women with its focus on women’s workplace and economic opportunities.

Waterstone Insurance Agency Inc. of Muskegon recently was named the sixth highest ranked insurance agency out of 350 West Michigan agencies by Auto-Owners Insurance Co. The award is based on production, profitability and customer service.
