Harris Lofts has begun renovation work on the Harris Building, a 110-year-old downtown structure in the Heartside Business District.

Harris Lofts owns the building, at 111 S. Division Ave.,  and is beginning the renovation with ground-floor work for its first tenant, The Local Epicurean.

The locally owned organic pasta company will have retail space, a restaurant and a teaching kitchen on the floor.

The Local Epicurean plans to open later this spring and will be an ArtPrize venue this fall.

Wolverine Building Group is managing the construction, and Landmark Design Group has done the architectural work.

Renovation stages will be announced later.

“Heartside is a vibrant neighborhood, bustling with redevelopment. It’s exciting to be a part of this transition,” said Wolverine Project Manager Dulane Coval.

The Harris Building has a rich history in the downtown landscape and has been a home to a brewery, a furniture company and the Knights of the Pythias in the past.
