Rock the Rapids reveals first performers
A legendary rock group and one of today’s top blues-and-rock performers are the first acts to sign on for this summer’s Rock the Rapids.
Rock performers ZZ Top and blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd are the first performers to be announced for this summer’s three day music festival at Fifth Third Ballpark.
They will perform on Thursday, Aug. 22, on the main stage at the event, which is presented by Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort.
ZZ Top, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
The trio possesses 11 gold records and seven platinum records (13 multi-platinum records): its 1983 album “Eliminator” remains the group's most commercially successful record, selling more than 10 million units. The group's hit singles over the course of its career include, “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” and “Legs,” among many others.
Shepherd, the Louisiana-born guitarist and songwriter, has sold millions of albums and focuses his work on the rich history of the blues, with a modern twist on a classic sound he has embodied since his teens.
He met Stevie Ray Vaughan when he was 7 years old and shared the stage with New Orleans legend Bryan Lee at 13.
As an adult, he continues to create genre defining, blues-infused rock 'n' roll.
Rock the Rapids will make more artist announcements soon, according to its website.
Rock the Rapids is set for Aug. 20-22 at the Fifth Third Ballpark.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m Friday, June 14 and can be purchased in person at the Fifth Third Ballpark box office, by calling (616) 784-4131 and online at fifththirdballpark.com.
