GVSU hosts workshop on buying and selling businesses
Business owners who want to sell — and those who are interested in buying one — might want to consider attending an upcoming workshop — sponsored in part by the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, housed at Grand Valley State University.
The event may also be of interest for attorneys, business brokers, financial planners and other professionals that are involved with the mechanics of buying and sell a business.
The workshop will be held Thursday in the Hager Auditorium at the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences, at 301 Michigan St. NE.
The event takes place from 8 a.m. until noon, and it features experts who can offer specific insights into how to buy or sell a business and various sessions on doing so.
The guest speakers include Dan Slate of H&S Companies, Randy Rua of Rua Associates, Jonathan Siebers of Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge, attorney Ken Lucas and Ben VanderWiede of Wells Fargo Bank.
Some of the topics that will be discussed are how to find a business to buy, how to finance a purchase, how to financially check out a targeted business and what needs to be done to get a business in shape to sell.
Buyers and sellers also will be able to attend individualized sessions that focus on their particular interest.
