West Michigan’s best-known names in office furniture manufacturing have done well at NeoCon this week, with Steelcase, the largest company, taking the most awards.

Its major competitor, Herman Miller, swept the Best of NeoCon 2013 in showroom design awards.

The 24th annual Best of NeoCon awards were hosted by Contract Magazine and honor the top new commercial interiors products introduced at NeoCon each year.

The annual Best of NeoCon awards for product are judged by interior design and facility management professionals who reviewed more than 350 entries this year.

Steelcase

Steelcase brands won five Best of NeoCon awards, including four gold awards and one innovation award.

Steelcase products recognized with a Best of NeoCon award include the Gesture chair and V.I.A. architectural solution, Nurture's Regard modular seating, Coalesse's Lagunitas, a comprehensive seating and table collection, and Turnstone's Buoy stool.

Herman Miller

Herman Miller introduced its new design for a “landscape of work” called Living Office, which it said “swept the Best of NeoCon showroom design awards.”

The showroom and a Living Office display were recognized in both Best of Competition for overall Showroom and Booth Design and Best Large Showroom.

Five new Herman Miller furniture designs garnered Best of NeoCon awards.

The Zeeland company took an innovation award for the second straight year, with the introduction of a new material application, expanded polypropelene, in its new Metaform Portfolio product line.

The company said Metaform “delineates space and creates diverse sets of Living Office settings with the use of lightweight and intuitive modular blocks that can be easily configured and reconfigured — in the moment — by the people who use them.”

The Herman Miller Collection’s new Eames Molded Wood Side chair earned a gold award for Guest Seating, and Locale added a silver award in the Furniture Benching category. Geiger also was acknowledged with a gold award in Casegoods for Catalyst Phase II.

Haworth

Haworth's Bluescape touchscreen “wall” was awarded a Best of NeoCon gold in the Workplace Technology category, as well as the Best in Competition award.

The Holland company also took the Best of NeoCon silver award for its Harbor Work lounge seating in the Seating: Collaborative/Work category.

Nucraft

Nucraft, based in Comstock Park, took a Best of NeoCon gold for its new Agility modular table.

The company also won Best of NeoCon silver awards for its Merino Collection of wood casegoods for private executive offices and the Aja occasional table.

“These awards are a wonderful achievement for our company. We are excited about the people we collaborate with and the teamwork that we exhibit creating great products for our industry,” said Bob Bockheim, president/CEO of Nucraft. “This is a great affirmation of our efforts to marry beautiful design with products that solve real problems for our customers.”
