Although Founders Brewing Co. and Bell’s Brewery are well represented on RateBeer.com and BeerAdvocate’s top beer lists, they are essentially ranked by “beer geeks” and fans.

So Zymurgy magazine — a publication of the American Homebrewers Association — recently put out its annual list of Best Beers in America.

Zymurgy ranks the beers based more on their mass-market appeal and availability in the nation, as many beers are still just regional.

Homebrewers’ choice

The ranking is based on the surveys of AHA members who can vote for their top 20 beers available commercially.

Bell’s has two beers in the top five, with Two Hearted Ale coming in at No. 2 and Hopslam placing at No. 5.

Founders' Breakfast Stout hit No. 6, while Kentucky Breakfast Stout tied at No. 17. Breakfast Stout is the only stout in the top 10.
