A Grand Rapids contractor has been chosen to direct the construction of a new hotel in the Lansing area.

Orion Construction has been awarded the contract to manage the construction of a new Hyatt Place, which will be going up in the Eastwood Town Center, near Lake Lansing Road and US-127 in Lansing Township.

The hotel will offer 125 rooms over its six stories.

The Lansing Melbourne Group is developing the project with Lansing Township officials.

Officials are leasing the property to the development firm, and the project meets the township’s master plan, which calls for mixed-use developments there.

Besides offering rooms, the Hyatt Place will also have retail space.

Gary Postma, Orion’s principal-in-charge, will be joined by Project Manager Roger Rehkopf and Project Superintendent Tony Cronkite on the company’s management team.

Orion Construction plans to have Hyatt Place finished in the fall.
