Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. wants you to pick the flicks for its outdoor film series that begins in August.

DGRI has listed 20 well known films from the past and has invited the public to select the movies to be shown at the first DGRI Movies in the Park Series.

Some are blockbusters like “Top Gun,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “The Dark Knight,” while some are cult favorites, such as “The Big Lebowski,” “The Blues Brothers” and “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.” Others, like “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and “The Princess Bride,” aren’t as easy to categorize.

Visitors to the site can choose three of the 20 films listed for the debut series in August and also name five films they would like DRGI to consider for future outdoor screenings. Voting ends on Friday night, and DGRI is expected to release the most popular movies on Monday. Details on when and where the films will be screened also will be coming soon online.

DGRI is the new umbrella organization for the Downtown Development Authority, the Downtown Alliance, the Downtown Improvement District and the city’s Office of Special Events.

The DDA agreed last month to spend $55,000 to purchase an outdoor movie screen, a digital projector and other necessary equipment to present films under the stars. DGRI said the screen has been ordered and is on its way.
