About 25 employees of Bissell are now out of work.

Trish Taylor, public relations manager for the nation’s largest manufacturer of floor-care products, confirmed that 5 percent of the salaried workforce at Bissell’s Walker location have been let go today due to the “changing market.”

She said the affected employees were spread across all departments and all had spoken to their managers about the decision this morning.

Taylor said company officials are now working on transition plans that include management decisions and financial and outplacement assistance for the displaced employees.

Much of that work is in its early stages, she said, but stressed that Bissell is committed to making sure the decision does not hurt customers.

“Right now, we’re committed to our customers at the highest level,” she said. “This review and resulting deduction won’t change that commitment.”
