Telecom giant bringing 500 jobs to West Michigan
One of the nation’s leading telecommunications companies is coming to West Michigan and promising 500 jobs.
Teleperformance Inc., a Paris-based global customer support and call center with U.S. headquarters in Holladay, Utah, will develop a customer support center at 2680 Horizon Drive SE in Cascade Township.
A collaborative effort between The Right Place Inc., the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and Cascade Township brought Teleperformance here.
“With over 49 official languages spoken in our region and 82,000 area college students with flexible work schedules, West Michigan is quickly becoming a high demand area for the customer service and call center industry,” said Birgit Klohs, Right Place president.
The move is supported by a $600,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Business Development Program and will create 500 full-time jobs for IT specialists, customer care agents, supervisors and trainers. Teleperformance plans to invest $3.79 million in the project.
“The process of locating a large customer care center like this is very complex,” said Jim Phillips, Teleperformance’s vice president of recruitment. “With the assistance from The Right Place and the MEDC, this new facility is now a reality. We’re excited to be part of the West Michigan community and are confident that Grand Rapids has the workforce and resources Teleperformance needs to succeed.”
Renovations to the Horizon Drive space are underway and expected to be completed in the fall. Teleperformance is accepting applications for the hiring process, which is expected to take place over the next few months.
Including the Teleperformance deal, Right Place said it has generated more than $37.2 million in capital investment and assisted in the retention and creation of 991 jobs in West Michigan so far this year.
