Davenport unveils new grad programs

The Donald W. Maine College of Business at Davenport University is launching a trio of new master’s programs this semester.

The first is a Master of Management program. It will be available at the Peter C. Cook Center in downtown Grand Rapids as well as at its new Lansing campus, in Livonia and online. The second is an MBA with a marketing concentration, which is available in Grand Rapids and online. The third is a Morning MBA, offered at the Cook Center and online.

“Davenport’s College of Business is excited to offer these new and innovative additions to our list of graduate-level programs,” said Michael Bowers, dean of the business college, in a statement.

Bowers said the Master of Management degree focuses on developing leadership qualities and the ability to manage change, organizational structure and design. The program places a strong emphasis on critical thinking, data analysis and decision-making capabilities. It can be completed in as few as 20 months and is offered in a flexible course schedule.

Bowers said the MBA with a marketing concentration is designed for professionals who want to advance their marketing careers. The program covers such industry trends as multicultural marketing, strategic branding, entrepreneurial marketing and emerging media.

It also ventures into digital marketing, social media, developing new brands and the latest consumer behaviors. The goal of the new program, which can be completed in less than 24 months, is to prepare students for upper-level marketing management positions.

Bowers said the new Morning MBA is the only program of its kind in Michigan and differs from the usual 18-month MBA program that is offered during the evening. It offers courses in Davenport’s strategic management concentration along with valuable executive insights, in an accelerated format.

Classes meet from 6:30-9 a.m. one or two days a week for seven weeks in a cohort format.

Bowers said participants in the programs will develop core competencies as they learn from senior-level executives from notable businesses in the region.

“These experts will enrich the learning of these new programs by sharing their expertise on topics relating to the course learning outcomes, and will lead learning experiences such as problem-based case analysis and simulations specifically designed as experiential learning opportunities,” he said.
