ArtPrize has always required artists to be 18 or older to compete for the coveted $560,000 in prize money — and that hasn’t changed.

But new this year is ArtStart, a competition that allows young artists to get involved.

ArtStart is open to anyone under 18.

Artwork may be any medium, including creative writing, graphic novel, photography, video, illustrations, etc.

The rules

ArtStart work must be original, created as a response to an individual’s ArtPrize experience, educational in nature and include at least three “ArtPrize elements,” such as reference to specific entries or themes, according to ArtStart rules.

The entries will be accepted Sept. 18-26.

A panel of judges from the community and the ArtPrize Education Youth Advisory Committee will select 10 ArtStart winners. The winners will be announced during the ArtPrize top 10 announcement.

All winners will be awarded a gift that encourages them to continue making art.

Submissions

The competition is entirely online, so artwork must be submitted digitally
