Art lovers can get a sneak preview of the ArtPrize pieces on display at an historic downtown building, get caught up on the latest fall fashions and make a much-needed contribution to a worthy cause at the same time.

ArPrize preview

The Art of Fashion is taking place this Saturday evening from 7-10 p.m. at the historic Harris Building, at 111 S. Division Ave.

The structure is an ArtPrize venue for the fifth annual arts competition, and it will make all three floors of its ArtPrize collection available for viewing then — four days before the highly anticipated event officially begins.

More than 50 artists will have their works on display Saturday at the Harris.

Fall Runway Show

A Fall Runway Show will be held at the building’s second-floor ballroom at 8 p.m., with perhaps the competition’s most buzzed-about piece, “Trichromatic Spectra,” serving as the show’s backdrop.

Two downtown retailers have joined Ferris State University, which owns the Harris Building, as sponsors of the fashionable evening. Lee & Birch, a women’s clothing store, and the Wolverine Company Store have come together to put on the runway show.

“The Art of Fashion provides a tremendous opportunity to bring our arts and fashion communities together as one,” said Brian Cousins, consumer engagement coordinator of Wolverine Consumer Direct Group.

“Not only will our guests be able to see the latest fashions at the Wolverine Company Store, they will have the chance to preview an incredible ArtPrize venue, while knowing that their attendance will help make a child’s wish come true,” added Cousins.

Make-A-Wish Michigan

The event is a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Michigan.

Tickets are $75 per person, but only today, and are available online theharrisbuilding.eventbrite.com. The price rises to $100 on Saturday and will be available at the door.

Admission includes drink tickets and hors d’oeuvres.

All the proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish Michigan.

“This is a great way to raise funds and awareness of children in Michigan who are facing life-threatening medical conditions,” said Ellie Andrus, director of development for Make-A-Wish Michigan.

“Make-A-Wish Michigan helps to provide hope, strength and joy to children and their families during a difficult time, by providing a child with their one, true heartfelt wish, and we’re really looking forward to teaming up with The Art of Fashion to make this happen,” Andrus added.
