Founders Brewing bottles next Backstage Series brew
Founders Brewing Co. has named the latest beer in its Backstage Series of experimental brews.
Maple syrup barrels
Following the successful Canadian Breakfast Stout, many people have asked Founders if it would use maple syrup barrels again.
Founders head cellar operator Jason Heystek told the Business Journal in August the brewery had secured all the barrels the company had used to make its bourbon-barrel maple syrup.
And Wednesday Founders announced its final Backstage Series beer of 2013, Sweet Repute — a wheat wine aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels.
The beer was aged in the barrels for 16 months and blended into the “bright warm russet” liquid.
Sweet Repute will be released on December 2 in 170mL bottles, at $17.99-$19.99 per bottle.
“We’re excited about this one,” said Dave Engbers, Founders Brewing co-founder and VP of brand & education. “Every sample we’ve pulled from the barrels down in the caves has been incredible.”
Other barrel-aged beers from Founders include Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Backwoods Bastard, Curmudgeon’s Better Half and other taproom-only brews.
It’s the final Backstage Series beer in 2013, but more will be released in 2014.
