Fall Parade of Homes opens door to listings
West Michigan home builders are ready to show off their best work of the season.
The event begins this Friday and runs through Oct. 19, with new homes in 11 communities.
The 36 parade homes can be toured on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, from 1-8 p.m.
Homes in the parade are priced from $150,000 to more than $2 million.
The parade will feature quite a few communities for potential buyers to consider: Ada, Allendale, Belmont, Byron Center, Caledonia, East Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids, Hudsonville, Rockford, South Haven and Wyoming.
“We usually have a pretty diverse representation as far as areas of Greater Grand Rapids are concerned,” said Emily Siebert, executive director of the Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids, which puts on the fall and spring parades in West Michigan.
Siebert said the parade houses feature the newest building styles, are energy efficient, have custom details, unique floor coverings and the most recent wall treatments. All are landscaped, too.
“Touring the Parade of Homes you will see how these professionals creatively blend design and luxury to maximize a home’s potential,” Siebert said.
The homes in this fall’s Parade can be seen online.
“We have homes all around the Greater Grand Rapids area: from lakefront properties to downtown Grand Rapids,” Siebert said. “It has been a very busy year for builders, and with inventory of existing homes still low, it’s a great time to build a new home and get everything you’re looking for.”
The 2013 Fall Parade of Homes is bigger than last year’s — 16 percent bigger.
The increase in the number of homes, up from 31 a year ago, wasn’t unexpected, however.
“Thirty-six homes is a nice increase from the fall last year. We actually could have had more, but with the market the way it is, inventory is moving quickly,” Siebert said. “We did see a few other potential Parade homes sell before they could be in the event. It’s a good problem to have.
“There really isn’t a normal number of entries,” added Siebert. “The number really goes up on the market and building activity, so we expected an increase again this year, since new home construction has increased.”
Option One Credit Union and WCSG FM 91.3 are the event’s major sponsors.
Tickets are $10 and are available at mygrhome.com and at Option One Credit Union.
Tickets can also be purchased at any of the homes for $12.
