A gateway to five international markets is opening up in West Michigan.

The state's marketing agency, the Michigan Economic Development Corp., will present its Global Trade Days workshop at Grand Valley State University, with the Van Andel Global Trade Center, on Oct. 17, from 8-11:30 a.m.

The workshop

MEDC said this week that the workshop will allow Michigan businesses to explore export opportunities and trends in five export markets: Canada, Mexico, China, United Arab Emirates and Brazil.

Global Trade Days will feature presentations by five “country-market specialists” on conducting business in the foreign markets.

The workshop will offer assistance by international Michigan Centers and foreign trade offices, as well as success stories from Michigan companies and details on upcoming Michigan trade missions and events.

Businesses can request one-on-one meetings with the country-market specialists by emailing export at michigan dot org.

"Diversify"

“My recent investment mission to China re-affirmed that foreign countries offer new markets, distributorships and other business partnerships to Michigan companies,” said Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder. “These workshops will help Michigan companies learn how to tap into those markets and diversify their customer bases. In today’s globally interconnected world, export sales offer extraordinary opportunities for Michigan companies to grow and create new jobs.”

The workshop will help companies “leverage” foreign markets to “improve their bottom line,” said MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney.

Registration

Businesses can register for the workshop online. The cost is $20 a person.
