St. Cecilia Music Center has named the five songwriters who garnered the most music-category votes during the first round of ArtPrize 2013.

Each of the winning artists in the five categories — classical, folk/country, rock/blues, jazz and pop/electronic — will receive $2,000, plus $1,000 of recording time at Mackinaw Harvest Studios.

The awards will be handed out at a private reception on Oct. 17 at Mackinaw Harvest Studios in Grand Rapids.

The votes were calculated through the ArtPrize website voting system.

"I’m so happy and proud to win, especially considering all of the gifted competition that I was up against,” said Karisa Wilson, one of the award recipients. “I’m so grateful to St. Cecilia Music Center for creating the opportunity for music to be highlighted in the ArtPrize competition."

This is the second year that St. Cecilia has awarded cash prizes to the top music entries of ArtPrize.

It is the third year that original music entries have been part of the ArtPrize competition.
