A national egg producer plans to invest $10.6 million to expand its West Michigan processing facility and create 28 jobs.

Cargill Kitchen Solutions plans to create the jobs over the next two years at its Bonanza Road operation, at 3100 Bonanza Rd., Lake Odessa, according to The Right Place and the Ionia County Economic Alliance.

The work on the facility will include an additional processing line, roadway enhancements and an expansion of its freezer storage and cooler space by about 22,500 square feet.

The expansion in West Michigan will help Cargill Kitchen Solutions support “customer demands and growth plans” and “a smoother interaction” among commercial traffic, employees and its neighbors, said Troy Peper, Cargill Kitchen Solutions plant manager.

“This project is vital to our long-term growth strategy, supply chain and will enhance the community as a whole,” Peper said.

Cargill Kitchen Solutions will receive more than $2.4 million in local and state funds, including Odessa Township tax abatements and funds expected from the Michigan Department of Transportation for infrastructure improvements.

“Cargill Kitchen Solutions has a tremendous growth potential in Ionia County, so we have been steadfast in our efforts to provide them with necessary support they need, as the company expands in Odessa Township,” said Jennifer Wangler, a business development consultant at The Right Place. “This expansion will help Ionia County continue to be a leader in the egg-production industry nationally.”

Cargill Kitchen Solutions is a division of Cargill, which employs 142,000 employees across 67 countries, according to its website.
