ArtPrize’s new director of development and strategic partnerships is bringing more than two decades of experience to the world’s largest art competition.

Michelle Hoexum’s experience spans fund development, fundraising, advertising and wealth management.

Her responsibilities at ArtPrize will include building and maintaining relationships with the organization's corporate, foundation and individual donors.

"My goals are to enrich ArtPrize's development structure, build strong relationships with national brands and find deliberate, programmatic opportunities for those brands to thrive," Hoexum said. "I am looking forward to contributing to ArtPrize's long-term viability and contributing to its growth as a platform for building community through contemporary art."

The other side of the table

This will not be Hoexum’s first experience with ArtPrize.

She previously served as a senior vice president and wealth advisor with U.S. Trust and led its sponsorship of the ArtFan program, ArtPrize's first individual donor platform.

“As a sponsor, we were thrilled to be associated with ArtPrize," Hoexum said. "We believed it created an amazing brand and engagement opportunity. It also gave us community interaction that would not have existed without ArtPrize.”

Outreach background

In addition to her work with U.S. Trust, Hoexum was previously a vice president at Comerica Bank and the development director at St. John's home, where she increased contributions from $200,000 to $1.5 million.

Her experience also includes managing advertising for Savour, a New York food magazine, marketing coordinator at Northern Trust and benefits analyst at Haworth.

She holds a bachelor of science in finance from the University of Dayton.

Hoexum was born in Detroit and grew up in Grand Rapids.

Anne Benson

Hoexum replaces Anne Benson, who was hired as interim development director in June 2012.

During her tenure, Benson spearheaded sponsorship fundraising, brought additional structure to the development department and helped to hire her replacement.

Benson will be retained by the Van Andel Institute to support its Van Andel Education Institute, beginning in November.
