There are a few changes in the 2014 leadership roles for the Kent County Board of Commissioners.

Commissioner Dan Koorndyk will continue as chairman for 2014, and Commissioner Jim Saalfeld will retain his post as vice chairman of the board. Saalfeld will replace Commissioner Harold Voorhees as chairman of the county’s Finance Committee, which will continue to have Commissioner Carol Hennessy as its vice chair.

Commissioner Michael Wawee will chair the county’s Legislative and Human Resources Committee. Commissioner Shana Shroll will replace Wawee as vice chair.

The leadership selections were recently made at the commission’s Republican caucus. The GOP held 15 of the 19 district seats on the board this year for the third consecutive year.

One seat will become vacant Jan. 1: The commission accepted the resignation of Commissioner Gary Rolls last week. Rolls, a Republican, represented the county’s 4thDistrict. Commissioners are expected to name a replacement before Feb. 1. His term expires Dec. 31, 2014.

The county commission will hold its first meeting of the New Year Tuesday, Jan. 7. It’s expected the board will make the leadership selections official then.
