The Bissell Pet Foundation doled out more than $635,000 to animal welfare organizations in 2013.

The charitable outreach foundation of the nation’s largest manufacturer of floor-care products reported that it gave the money to about 90 animal welfare organizations across the country.

Since its inception in December 2011, the Bissell Pet Foundation has given more than $1.1 million in support of animal rescues and shelters in 45 states and the District of Columbia. More than $450,000 was given directly to programs focused on spaying and neutering animals.

BPF receives $250,000 annually from Grand Rapids-based Bissell, and for every pet product Bissell sells on its website, a portion of the sale goes to the foundation.

“With literally millions of homeless pets euthanized every year in the U.S., we focus on funding programs that will do the most to change this heartbreaking outcome,” said Cathy Bissell, the foundation’s founder. “It brings me and my team so much joy to know we are helping to save the lives of thousands of animals through these grant awards.”
