Hotel takes off at 28th Street

A hotel franchisee made a suite landing near the Gerald R. Ford International Airport just before the holidays.

Residence Inn

The Residence Inn Grand Rapids Airport opened for business last week in Kentwood, not far from the airport, at 4443 28th St. SE.

The 100 suite, extended-stay hotel is operating as a Marriott franchise and is owned by 28th St. Hotel LLC.

Hospitality Specialists is managing the property, and Katrina Peterson is the hotel’s general manager.

The Residence Inn Grand Rapids Airport is the second in the area. The Residence Inn by Marriott Grand Rapids West is in Grandville. The Residence Inn Grand Rapids East, at 2701 East Beltline Ave. SE, closed and is now a Hawthorne Suites hotel.

“We are pleased with the continued growth of Residence Inn hotels in the Grand Rapids area,” said Diane Mayer, vice president and global brand manager for Residence Inn.

“When on the road for an extended period, our guests need to spread out, maintain their life’s pace and restore their energy to help them maintain a healthy balance and routine while traveling,” Mayer added. “This new hotel offers them a seamless blend of modern style and functionality that allows them to settle in and thrive.”

Amenities

All the rooms at Residence Inn properties are suites, with a mix of studios, one bedroom and two-bedroom units.

The suites have been designed for a five-day stay, and each one offers a fully equipped kitchen, a well-lit work area and high-speed Internet access.

The hotel also offers a business library, an on-site food and beverage store that's open 24 hours a day, a swimming pool, dry cleaning service, a guest laundry room, a whirlpool, an exercise room and a sports court.

The Residence Inn Grand Rapids Airport offers each guest a complimentary breakfast.

Earlier this week, room rates started at $119 a night.

The new hotel has an open house planned for Feb. 6, from 4-7 p.m.

Land

The Residence Inn sits on 10.5 acres that cost 28th St. Hotel LLC $750,000 to purchase, according to Kent County property records.

The site’s 2013 State Equalized Value was listed at $729,100. The property was a former water park.
