A new golf pro will be swinging around town this year.

Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada announced this week it is hiring Michael McGonigal as its new head golf professional.

McGonigal has been a Class A member of the PGA since 2004. He played two years of golf at Henry Ford Community College and went on to earn a degree from the Professional Golfers Career College in California.

Previously, McGonigal served as the head pro at Birmingham Country Club for four years.

He also has worked at golf courses across the country, including Hassaymapa Golf Club in Arizona, TPC Scottsdale, TPC Michigan, Meadowbrook Country Club, Forest Lake Country Club and Troon Country Club.

"I'm so excited to be here," McGonigal writes in a letter to the club’s members. "I already feel like part of the family. I know that my personality and goals will make me a great part of the team, and the club will excel."

He’s already at the club, making sure all the pieces are ready for a great season of golf in 2014.

"I'm looking to provide members with the ultimate golf experience here at the club," McGonigal writes. "I want members to come back ready for the next great experience.

"My ultimate goal is to make this the best club on the west side of the state."
