January signals the beginning of a new year of beer weeks.

First up is Kalamazoo Beer Week, or KBW, starting Saturday and running through Jan. 18.

The week actually starts with a few events today, including a Pre-Kalamazoo Beer Week Tasting, which takes place at Bell’s General Store from 4-7 p.m.

The Michigan Beer Film will be shown today at 7 p.m. at Greenbush Brewing Co., a few miles south in Sawyer. The film was made by Kalamazoo media company Rhino Media.

KBW officially kicks off with a Founders Brewing breakfast on Saturday at O’Duffy’s Pub at 10 a.m.

The rest of the week is filled with tours, tastings, beer dinners and tap takeovers.

Many breweries will hold events during the week: national breweries such as Brooklyn Brewery, New Belgium and Great Lakes Brewing Co.; Michigan breweries such as Short’s Brewing Co., Perrin Brewing Co., Arbor Brewing Co. and Brewery Vivant.

The week will be capped off by another showing of The Michigan Beer Film at Alamo Drafthouse on Jan. 18.

Information on Kalamazoo-area lodging and taxi services can be found at the Kalamazoo Beer Week website.
