Building materials distributor enters market
A statewide distributor to builders and contractors is entering the Grand Rapids market.
Wimsatt Building Materials, the state’s largest distributor of residential roofing products, has hired Grand Rapids-based CD Barnes Construction for a $2 million renovation and building project in Wyoming, at 1456 28th St. SW.
Grand Rapids-based Walsh Construction Co. has already started some of the demolition work on the project.
Ken Watkins of Architectural Concepts is the going to be the lead architect.
Wayne-based Wimsatt Building Materials, founded in 1936, also operates locations in Lansing, Traverse City, Waterford, Sterling Heights, Saginaw and Toledo, Ohio.
Hoffman Grand LLC, which has Wimsatt-based owners in the Hoffman family, purchased the 28th Street property from Dermody Truck Sales for $1.5 million last October, said Karen Oppenneer, deputy city assessor for the Assessment Department of the city of Wyoming. The property’s assessed value was $600,900 in 2013, she said.
Wimsatt’s site will be a three-part project, expected to be completed by May.
The first part will be to renovate the 31,377-square-foot building, which includes adding a showroom, offices, a conference room and additional warehouse storage.
The second part will be to build a 24,000-square-foot warehouse across the parking lot on the same property.
The third part will include additional work on the location’s landscape, which includes paving, gates and fencing.
“CD Barnes is honored to have been selected by the owners of Wimsatt Building Materials to construct their Wyoming location,” said Todd Oosting, CD Barnes Construction executive vice-president. “Wimsatt is a new client for our company, and we are excited to provide them with a quality building in which to grow their company.”
