The application process is now open to become a 2014 TEDxGrandRapids audience member.

This if the fourth year TEDxGrandRapids is being held. It has been one of the most successful self-organized TEDx events in the country and will once again bring speakers from around the world to the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre for the day.

TEDxGrandRapids is being held on May 7.

The 2014 roster of speakers is under development.

Videos of previous TEDxGrandRapids speakers can be found at the event’s website.

TED is a nonprofit devoted to “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx events are independently and locally organized and follow the TED model.

“Every year, our goal is to be a catalyst for change — bringing thinkers and doers in our community together to have conversations about topics that are sometimes hard to have,” said Bill Holsinger-Robinson, lead organizer. “We are thrilled to host more than 700 attendees at TEDxGrandRapids again this year and inspire more change and growth in West Michigan.”

Apply for tickets

Anyone interested in attending the annual conference is welcome to apply between now and Feb. 28 for a spot in the audience for the all day ideas conference.

Applications will be reviewed and then those selected will receive an email prompting them to purchase their ticket.

Tickets are $105 each for people selected to attend the live event.

You don’t have to be in the audience to attend TEDxGrandRapids. The speeches, performances and presentations will be shared free via live stream during the event — as well as recorded and archived at the event website.

Launch party

To generate excitement for this year’s event, TEDxGrandRapids will host a launch party on Feb. 4 at Kendall College of Art and Design.

At the launch party, guests will have the chance to meet the team and ask questions about the application process.

Launch party tickets are $5 through Eventbrite, and proceeds benefit the Livestream for Education, to help provide free access to TEDxGrandRapids events scheduled at local high schools for instructors, students and administrators in Michigan.
