Change Ups: New members and officers join GRACC board
The Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors has added three new members to its ranks: Lynn Afendoulis, Universal Forest Products Inc.; Lew Chamberlin, White Caps Professional Baseball Corp.; and Nelson Sanchez, RoMan Manufacturing Inc. 2014 officers are: chairperson, Douglas Dozeman, Warner, Norcross & Judd; chair elect, Stacie Behler, Meijer Inc.; vice chairperson, finance/audit, Jeff Connolly, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan; vice chairperson public policy, Jerry Kooiman, MSU College of Human Medicine; vice chairperson governance, Steve Heacock, Spectrum Health; vice chairpersons at large, Mike Mraz, Rockford Construction Co., and Michael Verhulst, Summit Landscape Management.; and immediate past chairperson, Bill Benson, William Charles Search Group.
Jackie Dumbleton has joined Extra Credit Projects as its art director.
Angela Peavey has been appointed sales and marketing manager for Saugatuck Center for the Arts. Peavey will lead execution of strategic marketing and sales initiatives, create innovative and effective marketing programs and further develop brand awareness. She previously was public relations lead for Big Shoes Productions.
Saugatuck Center for the Arts added the following to its board of directors: Ellen Donovan, who recently served as development director and interim executive director for Reeves-Reed Arboretum, and Connie Thacker, a member at Miller Johnson law firm.
The American Concrete Institute West Michigan Chapter announced its 2014 board of directors: president, Randall J. The Library of Michigan has named the anthology “Poetry in Michigan/Michigan in Poetry,” co-edited by Jack Ridl, professor emeritus of English at Hope College, a 2014 Michigan Notable Book. The 203-page book features works by 90 Michigan poets and 48 works of art by Michigan artists. Ridl, who retired from Hope in 2006, co-edited the book with award-winning poet William Olsen, a professor of English at Western Michigan University.

Region 3 of the Michigan Association of School Administrators announced Kevin A. Konarska, superintendent of Kent Intermediate School District, is the recipient of the 2014 MASA Regional Superintendent of the Year Award. The award is presented by each of nine regions in the MASA organization to an individual who has shown tremendous effort and dedication to enriching the lives of children and the community as a whole. Konarska is recognized for his inclusive leadership and focus on excellence.
Joe Beutler has been named director of ASTI Environmental's Western Great Lakes Office. He is responsible for directing ASTI’s efforts from Traverse City to Chicago and will lead its government contracting initiatives under the General Services Administration contract. Beutler graduated from the University of West Florida and has a master’s degree in earth and environmental science from the University of Illinois. He has spent the last six years working at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Midwest in various environmental roles.
Access Health has marked its 15th anniversary. Since its establishment in 1999, it has provided health coverage to more than 730 businesses and 5,650 employees in Muskegon and Northern Ottawa County. At the beginning of the New Year, 15,325 area businesses and more than 1,250 employees were under an Access Health coverage program.
Aardema Whitelaw PLLC announced Joel T. Brusk has joined the firm as a senior associate attorney. Brusk will continue to concentrate his practice in the area of medical malpractice defense litigation. A member of the State Bar of Michigan, he received his law degree, cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law in 2009.

Kentwood Office Furniture announced it has purchased work-surface manufacturer Brys Industries, a supplier of engineered wood products and components. Brys Industries, now KOF Wood Solutions, will continue to manufacture laminate work surfaces and related products at its 36th Street facility.
Lambert, Edwards & Associates has hired Paige Fagan as an associate to its consumer practice, providing account support and tactical implementation for retail, education and consumer product clients. A graduate of Grand Valley State University, Fagan will work in LE&A’s Grand Rapids office.
The Board of Library Commissioners of the Grand Rapids Public Library announced the election of its 2014 officers: president, James Botts; vice president/secretary, M. Jade VanderVelde. Botts and VanderVelde, along with William Baldridge, were re-elected as Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation board representatives.
