Brewery cans 15 packs
Not only is a local brewery growing to be one of the largest breweries in the nation, it's also starting some trends.
Founders Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids will be the first major craft brewery to put out a 15 pack when its All Day IPA cans hit the market in March in the unusual case.
The All Day IPA is a 4.7 ABV session India Pale Ale, brewed with Simcoe and Amarillo hops. It took home a 2010 silver medal in session beer at the Great American Beer Festival and recently won a national Good Food Award.
There’s a unique twist to the increase in product — it will be the same price as the 12 pack currently on the market.
“We are able to offer 15-pack cans due to production efficiencies from packaging cost savings,” Founders Brewing CEO Mike Stevens said. “We’re excited to pass the savings on to our customers as a way of saying thank you for their reception of All Day IPA.”
All Day IPA will still be available in six packs of bottles.
The creation and original release of Founders’ leading brand didn’t hint to this new "brewer’s dozen.”
The beer was a limited release in 2012 because of hop shortages, but eventually went to a year-round offering last year.
It was also the brewery’s first offering in a can, now accompanied by Centennial IPA.
“We recognized the need for a full-flavored IPA with a lower ABV,” said Founders Brewing Co-Founder Dave Engbers. “The challenge was creating a beer that had intense hop aromatics balanced with the malts, without packing a big ABV punch.”
