Office furniture maker buys plant
A furniture manufacturer will be expanding its operations come spring.
Bold Furniture, which produces branded and contract furniture, custom millwork and case goods, recently purchased a second facility in Muskegon to support growth.
“Bold has enjoyed tremendous growth in recent years and all of our forecasting points to a continuation of this trend,” said Bold CEO Todd Folkert. “We needed additional space to support this growth, and this facility fits the need perfectly.”
The new 40,000-square-foot facility is located at 2068 E. Sherman Blvd., which is less than a mile from its operation at 2291 Olthoff Dr.
United Sign formerly occupied the building.
Laminate case goods for the office furniture industry and retail store fixtures will be produced at the new plant.
Folkert said that multiple factors have contributed to the company’s recent growth.
“We've been fortunate to have aligned ourselves with several key customers that are growing, and we've been able to service them well over the years with great quality, reliability, customization and speed,” Folkert said.
The company counts several Fortune 500 organizations among its end-user customers.
“All of this is possible because of the great people that we have at Bold,” Folkert said. “We have a very strong team that works very well with one another. At the end of the day, it all comes down to our people.”
Bold Furniture expects to hire 25 workers in 2014. It currently employs 80 people.
“Primarily, people in manufacturing, machine operators, finishers, assemblers,” Folkert said. “However, we will have some support staff roles that we could be filling over the next 12 months.”
Folkert said that he is thrilled to be able to expand in Muskegon, because it's the heart of the office furniture industry.
“The whole supply chain network is within a tight radius,” he explained. “Also, there is a strong base of manufacturing talent.”
