Change Ups: Mobile unit ensures smiles
The American Dental Association recently held its 12th annual Give Kids a Smile day. Among the dentists who volunteered their services was Hillary Lane, who volunteered on Ottawa County Department of Public Health’s Miles of Smiles mobile dental unit, which operates year around to provide free dental services. Lane provided comprehensive dental care for Medicaid-insured and financially qualifying uninsured children at Glerum Elementary School in the Holland Public Schools district. Children also received a gift bag including oral health aids.
Star Collision Carstar’s office manager, Cheryl Blish, has been elected chairperson of West Michigan Body Shop Association for a third term. WMBSA recently awarded a $5,000 scholarship and tool grant to Kent Career Technical Center’s auto body program.
The West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology’s Award for Innovation went to John Kennedy, CEO of Autocam; its Award for Imagination went to Rick DeVos, founder of ArtPrize and Start Garden; and its Award for Inspiration went to Teresa Weatherall Neal, superintendent of Grand Rapids Public Schools.
Grand River Bank announced the promotion of Rod Weersing to assistant vice president, business development; and the additions of Emily McEldowney, retail banking specialist; Carly Sholund, customer service representative; and Mary Turowski-Fix, assistant vice president, bank systems manager.
DWH announced it has named Kirk Koeman and Mike Lobbestael partners. Koeman is responsible for business development and cultivating relationships in the marketplace with clients and strategic partners; Lobbestael’s responsibilities include growing and developing sales and marketing protocols for clients and leading strategic planning.

C.D. Barnes announced the promotions of Mike Balke to director of pre-construction services; Timothy Webber to project manager; Jonathan Stoner to project site superintendent for the $28 million Ridges of Cascade; and Ellen Frey, who has added the responsibility of safety director.
Star Crane and Hoist announced the appointment of Ellis Luchies to director of human resources and business development. Luchies will be based at the Allendale office while working with satellite offices in Portage, Traverse City, Saginaw, Detroit, Angola, Ind., and Cleveland.

The Frey Foundation announced the addition of Randy Van Antwerp in the newly created position of director of financial operations. Van Antwerp is responsible for financial planning, management of accounting and investment procedures, regulatory compliance, budget and reporting. He also will play a central role in working with philanthropic organizations around the state and in the evaluation of grant requests.

Van Andel Research Institute and Spectrum Health announced they have collaborated to bring cardiovascular researcher and cardiologist Stefan Jovinge, M.D., Ph.D., of Sweden, to Grand Rapids. Jovinge will lead teams of researchers and clinicians at Spectrum Health Frederik Meijer Heart & Vascular Institute and Van Andel Research Institute in an effort to stimulate regenerative medicine for heart disease.
